A Natural Fit

Jenny Sun's invitation to join the graceful dance of modest beauty.

Jenny Sun

I’ve never really been drawn to clothes that make me the centre of attention.

I’ve always loved pieces that feel soft, feminine and timeless. Clothes I can wear while running errands, meeting a friend for coffee, serving at church or celebrating something special without feeling like I’m pretending to be someone I’m not.

For me, dressing modestly has never meant dressing plainly though.

I still love beautiful fabrics, thoughtful details, flattering silhouettes and feeling put together. I just don’t feel the need for beauty to come from showing more skin or wearing something that demands attention.

Instead, I’m drawn to pieces that let other things shine…

A beautifully cut dress.

Natural fabrics that soften with every wear.

Delicate lace.

Pretty sleeves.

These little details make me feel beautiful.

When my clothes fit well and cover me well, I actually forget about what I’m wearing.

That freedom allows me to be fully present with the people around me.

To serve. To laugh. To hug my children.

To focus on conversations instead of constantly thinking about myself.

As I’ve grown in my faith, I’ve realised that beauty and modesty were never meant to compete with one another. I don’t believe I have to choose between feeling beautiful and dressing in a way that reflects my convictions.

The two can exist together.

For me, clothing has become less about drawing attention to myself and more about reflecting the quiet confidence that comes from knowing my identity isn’t found in my appearance, but in my Saviour, Jesus.
